Unexpected Phone Call
I just received an unexpected phone call from a lady who volunteers at Christ Fellowship. It has been at least a year since we have spoken, maybe more. She called to tell me about a mutual friend who is going through a difficult medical situation and family troubles. She asked me about our adoption. I filled her in on the all the progress or lack thereof. She reminded me that she too had fertility issues and waited 8 years before giving birth to her first daughter. Her second child came through adoption 7 years later. She was 40. She told me of the joys of being an older mom and how it has kept her young. She now has grandchildren and is enjoying them thoroughly. Believe it or not the fear of being a very old grandmother weighs heavy on my heart. She also encouraged me not to give up on possible medical cures for our infertility. She had severe endometriosis and had multiple surgeries. So many people want to offer their good wishes, a listening ear, advice and encouragement which I love because it lets me know they care and wish they could change things for me. But when the words come from someone who has been there they have greater meaning. Just to know they have crossed the same raging river and made it across alive brings me great solace and hope. So Jean, thank you.
