Hope does dissapoint...

We have been hoping for a baby for almost nine years and today we were disappointed once again. It was my expectation that I would be posting very happy news today along with ultrasound pictures of our soon to be adopted baby girl but that is not the case. As a matter of fact I was even waiting to blog at all until this day when I thought it would be a good time to tell everyone about the adoption.

We drove to Tampa to attend the level 2 ultrasound today. Unfortunately, the ultrasound revealed multiple, severe birth defects. Primarily, severe Spina Bifida. In addition, there is fluid on the brain; a misshapen skull and thickened skull base. The doctor could not see kidneys or a bladder and there is very little amniotic fluid which could mean underdeveloped lungs. All of this equals a very poor prognosis. Best case scenario is that, if the baby survives to term, she will be born with no use of her legs and significant brain damage and possibly die soon after birth.

Jan, the birth mother was very upset, mostly for us. She cried, we cried. At this point the adoption is off.

Romans 5:5 says that "hope does not disappointment. When I reread this verse today I finally realized that it is not talking about hope in getting the things we want or having the type of life we want. It is referring to the hope of salvation that we have in Christ Jesus. I have known this but I guess it just became real to me today. Misplaced hope does disappoint.

My heart breaks for you tonight.

Crying with you and carrying you in prayer still!

There are times when words cannot express how much your heart breaks. This is one of those times. I am so sorry for all the disappontments both you and Dave have had to endure with wanting to raise a child. I know you both would make wonderful parents.
God Bless you both. I am praying for you.
I am so sorry to hear of this. Am praying for God to comfort you and the biological mother.

Also believing and praying that God's best is still coming for you and Dave.

I'm very sorry Danielle. So hard to see the reason...Your banner scripture from Isaiah is so fitting. Earlier in the text it refers to Israel questioning God as being blind to their situation and having abandoned their defense. He has not and will not for you, Danielle. He hears the cry of your heart. ...Again, I'm so sorry.

Danielle, I, too, am so sorry. Was reading a list just now where people are talking about domestic adoption, and immediately thought of you. Two agencies in Utah were mentioned - the wait of the 4 individuals talking varied from 3 weeks to 10 months depending on one's racial preferences. You don't have to live in Utah, or be LDS. I know nothing about these agencies (I adopted twice from China) except what the people on this list were describing... how long they waited, that they were present at the birth, and even got to cut the cord, that they were happy with the experiences they had with the agencies:

May be worth looking into.

Best of luck!

Danielle, I remember you sharing your heart about this with me back along, and I'm so sorry to hear of this very disappointing news. It is such a heart break to think of the future for this little one, yet we know that God has this baby in the palm of His hand. He also has your times in His hands and I pray for His special love and favor in your lives.
